Working part time at the bookstore affords me many luxuries. Of these small blessings is the fact that I can listen all sorts of great LDS music for free twice a week. I don't ever bother buying cd's that I like because I can listen to them while I work. One of my new favorite cds is one by Vocal Point, the BYU men's acapella group. This cd includes two really great songs, one being a Super Mario Bros medley and other being a very different arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee. Nearer My God to Thee is one of my favorite hymns any way, being that is was one of the first (if not the very first) hymn I really learned to play on the piano.
Any way, I was listening to it at work and decided I would see if I could buy the sheet music somewhere. I searched for it and on their website, for free, was the arrangement for Nearer My God to Thee. It's the only one they have on their website and the composer has given anyone the rights to copy it and perform it. !!! Holy crap that never happens!
So, I printed off the music and began to obsess and have decided that I want to rewrite it for a women's choir and/or mixed choir. It's just too pretty to let it be just for boys. :) If and when I finish it, I might just put it up here for you to use and distribute as you see fit. In the meantime, for your aural pleasure, I present Vocal Point singing Nearer My God to Thee:
